Before Your Appointment
Scheduling a consultation before a microneedling treatment will give you time to discuss your concerns with a physician and work together to make a proper treatment plan. During this intake appointment, our providers will review anything you may need to avoid directly before your treatment, such as stopping certain medications or pausing parts of your skincare routine.
Skin Preparation
If you choose to use numbing cream to help alleviate pain, our physicians will apply topical 5% lidocaine all over the treatment area. This will need to sit for about 20 minutes to ensure the skin is properly numbed before microneedling begins.
Injury Phase
The microneedling procedure begins with the provider cleaning off the numbing cream from one section of the skin. Then the pen-like device is glided across that section moving down in straight lines. Ultra-fine needles in the tip of the device create 2mm deep microscopic holes across the skin’s surface. This process continues for each section of skin in the targeted treatment zone(s). Some droplets of blood may come to the surface and will be wiped clean before moving to the next section.
Healing & Aftercare
Once the microneedling is complete, the skin is cleansed with antiseptic to help seal the wounds and prevent infection. A moisturizing mask—typically an HA (Hyaluronic Acid) or PDO (Polydioxanone) afterglow—is then applied to help soothe any redness and swelling. Sunscreen is also applied to protect the newly exposed layers of skin. Your skin’s natural healing processes will start to take effect within three days and you may notice peeling or flaking skin as this happens. It is important to touch your face as little as possible and avoid applying makeup for 24 hours post-procedure to help with healing and not introduce bacteria to the fresh skin.

No downtime is required after our microneedling procedures. You may experience some redness and swelling that should resolve within 24 hours. Your skin may peel after the process, so some patients prefer to receive the treatment over a weekend so that these side effects have resolved before returning to work.
During a consultation, we will discuss the individual needs of the patient to determine the number of necessary treatments. Many patients only require an annual treatment to achieve refreshed skin. However, patients wishing to resolve deep wrinkles, severe acne scarring, or aged stretch marks may need a series of eight sessions with one every six weeks.
