PDO Threads for
Face and Body

Achieving a more youthful and lifted appearance doesn’t have to require surgery or fillers. For those seeking a minimally invasive way to enhance their look, PDO threads offer a unique solution. These threads are carefully woven into the skin, providing a lifting effect by latching into sagging areas and re-suspending them. Beyond the face, this innovative treatment can also be applied to areas of concern throughout the body.

What are PDO Threads?

PDO (Polydioxanone) threads are dissolvable sutures that are threaded under the skin with a thin needle to tighten the skin and reduce the appearance of wrinkles. This procedure carries much lower risks of complications than a facelift. The sutures are made from a natural protein, making them safe, hypoallergenic, and FDA-approved.

How Does PDO Threading Work?

A certified practitioner will administer local anesthetic to keep you comfortable. Then, the threads are gently inserted into the skin with a fine needle and passed beneath the surface in the direction of the intended lift. The passing of these threads simultaneously causes a stimulation of collagen which will aid in the lifting process.
The threads are left in the skin and dissolve naturally over six to nine months. Swelling and bruising from the needle insertion typically subside within a few days, revealing initial results. Optimal results are seen after one to two months and can last anywhere from 1-3 years, depending on the type of threads used.

What Areas Can Be Treated?

PDO thread lifts are most often treated in the face and are used to improve the appearance of sagginess, wrinkling, and loose skin. However, these threads can also be effectively applied to any of the following areas where you notice concerns:

Treatable Facial Zones

Treatable Body Zones

What Are the Benefits?

PDO threads will improve the appearance of sagging skin, loss of volume, and wrinkles across all types and colors of skin.

Minimally Invasive

Thread lifts do not require any incisions; instead, they use tiny insertion points created with an ultra-fine needle. This results in less tissue trauma and quicker recovery time.

Very Little Downtime

As an outpatient procedure, PDO thread lift patients generally experience full healing from minimal side effects (mainly swelling and bruising) in as little as two days or up to one week.

Cost-Effective

PDO thread lifts can cost up to 86% less than traditional facelift or body lift procedures.

Improved Contouring

No matter what areas you would like to improve with PDO threads, the procedure provides natural-looking results to tighten the skin and contour areas of concern.

Increased Collagen Production

During the threading process, your body triggers its natural healing processes, resulting in an increased production of collagen. This collagen helps volumize the skin to improve wrinkles and sagging.

Immediate Results

Full effects from a PDO thread lift can take a few weeks, but most patients notice an immediate difference in the tightness and lifting effects created by the treatment.

Long-Lasting Results

Even though the threads eventually become fully absorbed, the results from this type of lift can be noticeable anywhere from one to three years.
Choosing a PDO thread lift for your face or body offers several benefits through a minimally invasive process. The flexible applications of this procedure immediately improve almost any area of concern and provide long-term results.

Your PDO Threads Experience at Allure Wellness

PDO threads will improve the appearance of sagging skin, loss of volume, and wrinkles across all types and colors of skin.

Local Anesthesia

Your skin will be prepped with alcohol to cleanse and disinfect, followed by the application of topical or local anesthetic. Your doctor will also mark the skin where the threads will be inserted.

Threading

At Allure Wellness, we use PDO Max threads which are cleared by the FDA. PDO Max provides extensive training, equipping physicians for better placement and results.

Your doctor will begin the threading process by inserting the thin cannulas (blunt-tipped needles holding the threads) into the marked areas. Each thread is inserted individually, with careful precision to create the exact lines needed for the desired lift. The threads have tiny, painless barbs that help them maintain their placement. This part of the procedure can take 15-45 minutes, depending on the size of the treatment area and the number of threads being inserted. Once the threads are in place, the cannulas are gently removed from the opposite end where they were inserted. You may feel some light tightening, tugging, or pressure beneath your skin during this process.

Results

Once the cannulas have been removed, the procedure is finished and you can resume normal activities at your discretion. With the threads in place, you will experience lifting immediately. Additionally, you will see more noticeable results after a few days, up to a couple of weeks, as the insertion sites heal and more collagen is produced.

Frequently Asked Questions

PDO thread lifts are not permanent but can be long-lasting. Thread lifts are intended to achieve mild to moderate lifting. A traditional facelift can have very drastic results, but it is an inpatient surgery that requires more time, money, and recovery. While you can generally return to work or daily life activities immediately after a PDO thread lift, a surgical facelift requires one to weeks of downtime. Additionally, if you don’t like the results of your thread lift, it is possible to have them repositioned or removed. If you don’t like the results of a surgical facelift, there isn’t much that can be done without requiring additional surgeries.

The results from a PDO thread lift can last anywhere from one to three years. Even though the threads themselves typically dissolve within six to nine months, the dissolving process stimulates the production of collagen. This collagen increase continues to plump and firm the treated skin, prolonging the decreased appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and sagging skin.

After a PDO thread procedure, there is little to no downtime depending on the individual patient. Most patients can return to their regular activities the same day or the next day. There may be slight bruising and swelling for the first couple of days following the procedure. If the threading procedure was done in a facial zone, patients should avoid any dental work for at least two weeks post-op, as prolonged periods requiring the mouth to be open can reduce treatment results. Additionally, these patients are encouraged to sleep on their backs for a couple of weeks to reduce the likelihood of applying too much pressure to one side.

PDO threads are held in place using tiny, painless barbs. Thanks to this innovation in threading, results are immediately noticeable after the procedure. However, the threads will take about one to two months to fully settle into their locations as the swelling and bruising resolve.

As with any aesthetic procedure, not all instruments and materials are created equal. At Allure Wellness, we have chosen to treat our patients with PDO Max. Considered one of the best threads on the market, PDO Max threads are FDA-approved as a thread-in-cannula device. PDO Max provides a variety of safe and effective threads based on the needs of each patient.

Most patients see their desired results with only one treatment. However, we encourage our patients to follow up with us around six to nine months after their procedure to evaluate their results. If a patient is not fully satisfied with their initial results, a second procedure can be scheduled. After that, additional treatments shouldn’t be needed for at least one year, but up to three years.
