PDO Threads for
Face and Body
What are PDO Threads?
PDO (Polydioxanone) threads are dissolvable sutures that are threaded under the skin with a thin needle to tighten the skin and reduce the appearance of wrinkles. This procedure carries much lower risks of complications than a facelift. The sutures are made from a natural protein, making them safe, hypoallergenic, and FDA-approved.

Threading
At Allure Wellness, we use PDO Max threads which are cleared by the FDA. PDO Max provides extensive training, equipping physicians for better placement and results.
Your doctor will begin the threading process by inserting the thin cannulas (blunt-tipped needles holding the threads) into the marked areas. Each thread is inserted individually, with careful precision to create the exact lines needed for the desired lift. The threads have tiny, painless barbs that help them maintain their placement. This part of the procedure can take 15-45 minutes, depending on the size of the treatment area and the number of threads being inserted. Once the threads are in place, the cannulas are gently removed from the opposite end where they were inserted. You may feel some light tightening, tugging, or pressure beneath your skin during this process.
Results
Once the cannulas have been removed, the procedure is finished and you can resume normal activities at your discretion. With the threads in place, you will experience lifting immediately. Additionally, you will see more noticeable results after a few days, up to a couple of weeks, as the insertion sites heal and more collagen is produced.

Frequently Asked Questions
PDO thread lifts are not permanent but can be long-lasting. Thread lifts are intended to achieve mild to moderate lifting. A traditional facelift can have very drastic results, but it is an inpatient surgery that requires more time, money, and recovery. While you can generally return to work or daily life activities immediately after a PDO thread lift, a surgical facelift requires one to weeks of downtime. Additionally, if you don’t like the results of your thread lift, it is possible to have them repositioned or removed. If you don’t like the results of a surgical facelift, there isn’t much that can be done without requiring additional surgeries.
The results from a PDO thread lift can last anywhere from one to three years. Even though the threads themselves typically dissolve within six to nine months, the dissolving process stimulates the production of collagen. This collagen increase continues to plump and firm the treated skin, prolonging the decreased appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and sagging skin.
After a PDO thread procedure, there is little to no downtime depending on the individual patient. Most patients can return to their regular activities the same day or the next day. There may be slight bruising and swelling for the first couple of days following the procedure. If the threading procedure was done in a facial zone, patients should avoid any dental work for at least two weeks post-op, as prolonged periods requiring the mouth to be open can reduce treatment results. Additionally, these patients are encouraged to sleep on their backs for a couple of weeks to reduce the likelihood of applying too much pressure to one side.
PDO threads are held in place using tiny, painless barbs. Thanks to this innovation in threading, results are immediately noticeable after the procedure. However, the threads will take about one to two months to fully settle into their locations as the swelling and bruising resolve.
As with any aesthetic procedure, not all instruments and materials are created equal. At Allure Wellness, we have chosen to treat our patients with PDO Max. Considered one of the best threads on the market, PDO Max threads are FDA-approved as a thread-in-cannula device. PDO Max provides a variety of safe and effective threads based on the needs of each patient.
Most patients see their desired results with only one treatment. However, we encourage our patients to follow up with us around six to nine months after their procedure to evaluate their results. If a patient is not fully satisfied with their initial results, a second procedure can be scheduled. After that, additional treatments shouldn’t be needed for at least one year, but up to three years.
